- Want to get involved in your community?
- Interested in tutoring, teaching, or working in an afterschool program?
- Eager
to use your writing talents in a non-profit, corporate, or tech field?

to build your resume or portfolio?
Then you need to see LTWR about an
academic internship!
Internships
are available to put your writing, teaching, and research skills to work
in the community. With a
little bit of paperwork, and a 3-9 hour per week commitment, you can earn
college credit while building your resume or portfolio.
This is your opportunity to “try out” a career while still in
school! Start this process early,
as it takes some time to find an internship that "fits" your
talents and needs.... See your advisor, the Career Center, or
Prof. Formo, for more information.

Make
Use of a Literature and Writing Studies Intern!
Literature and Writing Studies (LTWR) Interns receive academic credit
for 3-9 hours of work per week in your company or agency. By providing a student with “real
world” experience and a chance to “try out” a career before graduating,
you get a motivated and articulate intern for a semester.
Internships need not be paid—in fact we prefer them unpaid so that we
can offer academic credit instead.LTWR Internships are easy to manage:
- We do the paperwork, advertise the position, and screen
candidates.
- We monitor student progress throughout the semester and require the
intern to keep a formal
journal (or write a longer paper) tracking their experience.
- We hold in-person
“progress checks” with the intern regularly throughout the semester.
- We are available to step in should any problems arise in the course
of the internship.
- We list your company/agency as a “friend of LTWR” on our internship
page of our website.
LTWR Interns have the necessary expertise:
- Our interns have extensive experience as writers, since every class
they
take at CSUSM requires formal writing—even math and science courses!
- Our interns can read critically, arrange arguments logically, and use
rhetoric effectively—that is what they study every day in LTWR!
- Our interns have a strong work ethic and prior experience in the
workplace, as most CSUSM students also work over 20 hours per week or have families to care
for. Many are first-generation college students and have made real sacrifices to pursue
their degree.
- Our interns have plenty of experience working in teams and on
collaborative projects.
- Our interns are comfortable with technology and familiar with
web-based tools, since CSUSM students must meet computer competency requirements and use
technology in all of their classes. Many students also have web design and web
development skills.
