Online
Writing Lab (OWL)
The CAPI Online Writing Lab (OWL)
is part of the Collaborative Academic Planning Initiative Grant Program. The
OWL is hosted by California State University San Marcos, and is staffed by
CSUSM students. The OWL's services are currently available to students in
participating classes at Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Buena Vista, San Marcos,
Temecula Valley, and Vista High School via form submission.
Who may use the OWL?
The OWL is available to many students at the five participating schools. If
you are a student interested in gaining access to the OWL, ask your teacher
to contact Dr. Dawn Formo by visiting the teachers
area. Teachers at participating schools are encouraged to use
the OWL as a part of their classes. Ask your teacher to
request an OWL presentation.
There are a several ways that the OWL can help you improve your writing
skills:
- The OWL has a student prose workshop board available; this feature
will allow you to post paragraphs, sentences, ideas or entire papers so
that other students in your class can review them and respond with
suggestions or help. CSUSM consultants do not monitor this workshop. Use
this workshop as an electronic version of in-class peer workshops.
- The OWL has a form available that will allow you to send your paper,
along with questions you have regarding your paper, to university writing
consultants. The consultant who reviews your paper will send you a
response via e-mail addressing your concerns within 48 hours of your
submission.
- The OWL has a series of English
& Math resources posted that will help you improve
your writing.
