English Resources & Links for CAPI Students

Reading and Writing Resources
These resources were designed by Cal State San Marcos faculty and teaching assistants. CAPI writing consultants will likely direct you to these resources as they assist you with your reading and writing skills.
Face-Face Consulting in Action
Are you curious to see what a group face-to-face consulting session with a CAPI writing consultant might be like? Visit a Temecula Valley session in action (You MUST have Real Player installed to see this!  If  you do not have Real Player you will have to download it).
Website Links
These resources and links have been suggested by faculty participating in the CAPI project. Feel free to make use of these links or to suggest new links for the site.

API Data: Are you interested to know how your school performs in comparison to other schools? If so, you’ll want to visit this site.

English-Language Arts Content Standards: The State of California has established Standards for K-12 instruction. You might be interested to know the goals of each grade level.

Diagnostic Writing Service (DWS): The California State University System has designed a writing service to help identify your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. You are encouraged to use DWS at least once during your junior year and once during your senior year in high school. CAPI will cover the nominal cost for CAPI participating schools. Let your teacher know that you are interested.

SAT Preparation: A wide range of SAT test preparation courses/resources are available online. You may want to begin your research of such sources by visiting http://www.kaplan.com or http://www.review.com/

Educational Testing Service (ETS): ETS is a leader in educational testing and research. You and your parents may find ETS’s discussion of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE) and of the CSU English and mathematics placement tests (EPT and ELM) useful.
