NOTE - PROGRAM DELAYED
The College of
Education would like to thank you for your continued
interest in our Masters Program in Communicative
Sciences and Disorders. The development of this
program has been a long journey for all of us. Our
program was approved by the California Commission on
Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) in October of 2007.
Subsequent to the approval from the CCTC, we began
the process of requesting approval of our program
from the California Speech-Language Pathology and
Audiology Licensing Board (CSLPALB), which would
allow our graduates to apply for state licensure as
an SLP. Such licensure is required to work as an
SLP in any setting outside of the public schools.
We had anticipated admitting our first cohort of
graduate students in the Fall of 2008. However,
given that the regulations and standards of the
three (3) agencies that regulate the practice of
SLP’s -- CCTC, CSLPALB and the American
Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) -- are
interdependent, it has become apparent that it would
be more advantageous for the program and for its
graduates to secure accreditation status through
ASHA prior to opening.
As such, we have decided to move
forward with our application for In-Candidacy status
with ASHA. This process takes a reported 12-18
months prior to granting of such status, and
admission of the first cohort of students. It is
our intention to open the program, with such status,
in Fall of 2009. This will thus delay our opening
one academic year.
Letter to those who
have already applied to the program
