Guidelines for Receiving Tutor Assistance Hit Counter

Tutoring is free to all CSUSM students, in any of the languages taught here. The tutors are students carefully selected and trained to help you.

Your tutor also has access to study-skill materials such as memorization, note-taking, time management, etc.

  • Scheduling and canceling appointments::
    • Tutoring is free for all CSUSM students, in all languages taught here.

    • You may make up to 2 appointments per day & up to 2 weeks in advance.

    • Walk-ins are accepted - but only if a tutor is free. Appointments are suggested.

    • Cancel appointments as soon as possible, so others can use that time.

    • Arrive on time. If you are more than 5 minutes late (by our clock),
      your appointment will be given to someone else. If you are running late,
      call 760-750-8058, and we might be able to wait longer.

    • If you are a no-show for 2 appointments, you will not be able to schedule
      another appointment without permission from the LLC Director.

    How to prepare for your tutoring session::
    • Come for help with homework, activities, drafts of papers, test review...

    • Come with specific questions or a draft of your work.

    • Try in good faith to do as much on your own as you can.

    • Be up-to-date with all assignments.

    • If you bring a paper, plan to go over only a FEW specific topics in the
      session: a verb tense, a grammar point, a particular paragraph, etc.

    • Know your CSUSM academic honesty policies and plagiarism definitions.

    What tutors will NOT do::
    • Tutors will NOT proofread papers looking for mistakes.

    • Tutors will NOT do your homework for you.

    • Tutors will NOT teach you something you have not yet studied on your own.

    • Tutors will NOT translate papers from English.

    • Tutors will NOT look at work that has been written or translated by others or by a computer program. (Such work would be considered plagiarism if handed in to the instructor. If you are confused, tutors can explain this complex issue in a private and supportive manner.)
    The LLC wishes you success at CSUSM, and we look forward to supporting your language-learning experience through our tutoring and other services.

    Thank you,
